Advantages and Different Popular Brands of Power Tool Batteries
A QUICK REVIEW OF THE MAJOR FEATURES FOR THE BEST POWER TOOL BATTERIES FOR 2021
A QUICK BUYING GUIDE FOR THE BEST POWER TOOL BATTERIES FOR 2021
Cordless tool manufacturers now offer many more cordless power tools than ever before. Likewise, the need for power tool batteries has increased exponentially with the increase in demand for cordless tools. Power tool batteries vary by brand. Some of the most popular brands are RYOBI, DeWalt, and Black & Decker, but there are more. Power tools are built with a specific design of power usage that cause batteries to differ greatly from tool to tool, and from brand to brand. The latest and greatest batteries are composed of lithium ion power and has climbed to the top of the markets here in early 2021. The ease and portability of cordless power tools makes jobs easier, whether you are an avid DYI or a professional craftsperson.
Face it: almost all the big brands sell their own replacement batteries. DeWalt even adds specific serial numbers on their various tool products. And there are different voltages as well. For example, a some DeWalt drills use 18 volt batteries, while others need 9.6 volts. DeWalt battery serial numbers begin with the letters DW followed by 4 numbers.
Like DeWalt, Black & Decker keeps a pretty big assortment of batteries too, coming in voltages from 9.6V to 18V. RYOBI also has their own brand, although their list of tools is not as large. And to add to the consumer’s confusion, most of the time you cannot use the battery from one brand on a different brand.
Recently, tool manufacturers began creating interchangeable batteries between tool sets, which makes it somewhat easier on the customer. You can now buy a “set of tools” with a variety of cordless tools that all require the same rechargeable battery.
In one instance, we found a DEWALT 20V MAX Cordless Drill Combo Kit, 10-Tool (DCK1020D2) that includes 1/2 inch compact drill, reciprocating saw, circular saw, 4 1/2 inch grinder, an impact driver,
and a Bluetooh Speaker and flashlight — all running off the same 20 volt batteries.
The design in cordless power tools and their relative power tool batteries only gets better as the technology grows. Cordless power tools and power tool batteries have been improved greatly in design since they were first released. Higher voltage batteries make cordless power tools more powerful and weigh less. This enhanced design makes power tools more user friendly, more ergonomic, and easier to get into hard to reach spaces.
WHICH IS BETTER? NICD, NIMH or LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES
Most current power tools use either NIMH or NICD batteries. But now at the top of the leader board are lithium-ion batteries, which some manufacturers claim are longer lasting (up to 10x longer). Lithium ion batteries also charge faster, up to 90% within minutes rather than hours. Probably the most advantageous feature, no more “memory effect”, where if you didn’t charge the battery it causes a false memory limit for charging. Whew, don’t need that nonsense any longer.
As people change our jobs change, and cordless power tools with their relative power tool batteries are changing right along with us. Have stronger voltage batteries and lighter weights allows people to work in smaller areas with ease, and they are more ergonomic by design.
If you do not mind a non-name brand, we suggest the FirstPower 6.0Ah Replacement Battery DCB205 DCB204 – Compatible with All 20V Cordless Power Tools DCB180 DCB200 DCB204-2 DCB205-2 DCB206 DCD/DCF/DCG Series – Upgraded Li-ion 2 Pack as it comes in a 2-pack unit.
But if you prefer name brands, then one of the best sellers is DEWALT 20V MAX XR Battery, Lithium Ion, 5.0Ah (DCB205). Great product, solid, and long lasting.
Of course, you can have the best power tool batteries for 2021, but they won’t do you much good unless you have one of the best cordless drills for 2021 or other fine portable tools. Check them out!
